Therapy Input ~ The Therapist’s Roles ...

* To review the child’s needs

* To structures the environment to the child’s ability level

* To observe the child’s responses

* To monitor the child’s reaction to physiological and emotional responses

* To make necessary adjustments to accommodate the child’s responses

* To accurately record any change and progress

Active observation of the child’s responses and reactions gives clues to the effects of the therapy on the child’s system and how the Therapist should respond

The Therapist looks out for …                                                                                                                    Autonomic Nervous System SIGNS                                                                                   *Sympathetic           [prepares the body for action: acts as a unit ]                                            *Parasympathetic     [maintains bodily functions: acts on individual organs]

Remember …                                                                                                                                         Any sensory stimulation can be very powerful, especially vestibular stimulation;

* It is cumulative and can have latent effects –

* Vestibular stimulation must not be passive – the child must be in control of any vestibular input

* Avoid sensory overload – the child may seek stimulation without being aware of its effects

* With slow movement, talk to the child to maintain arousal level
